Correctional LPN

Location: Ray Brook, NY
Job Schedule: Monday-Friday (6AM-2PM)
Responsibilities: Included but not limited to

• Evaluation of patients and provision of therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical and mall staff
• Administers medications as prescribed or ordered for the patients, including immunizing agents, and performs skin testing. Perform venipuncture and administer and withdraw intravenous fluids.
• Counseling patients as needed regarding diagnosis
• Securing a health history from the inmate patient and recording findings in the medical record
• Recording diagnostic testing i.e, venipuncture for laboratory studies, visual acuity testing, EKGs, assisting with x-ray procedures, including positioning and prep of patient, per instructions from the Physician Assistant, X-Ray Technologist or Staff Physician
• Process lab work and/or filling on a daily basis and keep accurate logs of all reports following BOP and JCAHO policy
• Ensure all sharp are secured, accounted for, stored, and disposed of according to institutional and national policy
• Discriminate between normal and abnormal lab values, and notify a Physician or Physician Assistant of the results
• Review clinical records to ensure data is entered legibly and in the appropriate section of the medical record
• Ability to operate EKGs and Clinitek equipment and other laboratory equipment
• Knowledge of mental health disorders and the ability to screen for gross mood changes
• Possess knowledge of treatment of chronic health problems such as hypertension, diabetes and asthma
• Knowledge of optometry to screen for distance and near vision and color blindness
• Ability to provide basic first aid, preventive care and guidance in treating a variety of common illness/injuries

Qualifications:

• 1 year Experience in a correctional environment (preferred)
• Degree as a LPN
• Mal Practice Insurance
