Based in Southern California

SEIU Local 2015 is California’s Long Term Care workers organization that will unleash the collective power of long-term care workers, their families, and their communities, harness the power of technology, and build a broad movement to disrupt the unjust status quo to bring lasting transformational change towards a more just society for all.

SEIU Local 2015 represents 400,000 homecare providers, nursing home workers and assisted living center workers throughout California, making it the largest union of long-term care givers in California and the second largest SEIU local in the nation. For more information please visit,

Position Purpose:
Organizers
train, develop and empower workers across the long-term-care sector, including In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) homecare, skilled nursing home facilities, private homecare facilities and assisted living facilities to:

  • Form, build, and grow their union
  • Participate in their contract bargaining and representation
  • Organize and mobilize worker issues, including rights and standards, political, legislative and policy goals.
  • Develop their leadership potential

SEIU Local 2015 organizers may be assigned to work with and on behalf of workers who are already in the union, or with and on behalf of workers who are in the process of building a union for the first time.

Experience and Education:

  • Previous experience in union or community organizing is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Membership recruitment and COPE (Committee on Political Education) recruitment.  This is seen as a primary duty of an organizer, with COPE contribution/membership indivisible from membership recruitment goals.
  • Recruit and develop workers to be activists and leaders, including conducting basic member trainings and meetings, to successfully implement the strategic goals of the union.
  • Assist in building organizing committees, contract action teams, and other teams of workers who take action on our priorities.
  • Lead teams of workers to achieve key strategic or campaign objectives.
  • Assist with contract negotiations, campaigns and strikes.
  • Make, execute and evaluate strategic plans and daily, weekly, and monthly work plans based on assigned goals and objectives.
  • Learn about how the long-term care industry functions and is funded, the industry employers, and the role of the National Labor Relations Board and PERB plays in the industry.
  • Demonstrate behaviors in line with Local 2015 Core values: leadership, compassion, empowerment, accountability, transparency and excellence.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Scope and Nature of Supervision:
Organizers will report to their assigned supervisor.

Working Conditions:

  • Willingness and ability to work long, irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license, reliable use of car for work, and required automobile insurance
  • Willingness and ability to travel if required
  • Work is generally performed in the field with members and outside constituents.
