The Staff Pharmacist in Oncology holds the responsibility of delivering patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary practice environment, collaborating with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
The services rendered encompass (but are not limited to):
- Assessing the appropriateness of patient therapy while incorporating age-specific modifications and implementing clinical interventions to prevent adverse drug events.
- Conducting clinical research in addition to overseeing various professional development programs.
- Acting as a liaison to other departments within the Cancer and Infusion Center, providing operational support and educational resources for new treatment regimens.
- Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of the regulations governing the preparation of intravenous admixtures, chemotherapy, and other sterile products while supervising pharmacy technicians and other support staff.
- Overseeing and actively participating in the maintenance and proper storage of an adequate inventory of all medications required for practice.
- Developing and updating departmental and nursing policies.
- Collaborating with the Oncology team to standardize the ordering procedures for chemotherapeutic medications.
Qualifications required for this position include:
- A minimum of five years of extensive acute care clinical experience.
- The ability to mix compounds is mandatory.
- A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree is required.
- Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency in Oncology is strongly preferred.
- Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) Certification is highly preferred.
- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently without direct supervision, in accordance with established policies.
- The applicant must be proficient in supervising the activities of support personnel.
- Experience in specialty pharmacy medication management is essential.
- The traveler must possess a personal vehicle to fulfill related responsibilities.
Certification Requirements include:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- State License Requirements for Massachusetts.
- Additional License Requirements indicate that the Massachusetts license must be obtained prior to application submission.
