TRAFFIC SIGN COMPUTER OPERATOR
Department of Public Works - Traffic Section - Up to $2,500 Sign on Bonus Available -
The Department of Public Works is seeking the right applicant who is qualified to produce signs and banners for all city departments and agencies; maintains and operates traffic sign manufacturing equipment to include computerized sign printers as well as manual sign making equipment; maintains the sign inventory and is responsible for ordering all sign making material; performs a variety of tasks associated with traffic signs and signals, to include the traffic sign installation, pavement markings and signal projects. Responsibilities include traffic sign installation, painting, signal construction projects, operation of traffic sign computers and winter operations as required. Essential duties include design, lay out and prepare special signs and banners by computer or hand; lays out and prepares traffic regulatory signs by computer or hand in accordance with the manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); operate and maintain painting equipment including design layout and installation of parking lots, crosswalks, stop bars, and roadway lines and symbols; prepares traffic sign maintenance work orders; prepares invoices for signs made and transfer accounts that need to be charged; maintains familiarity with the MUTCD, in particular Parts 2 and 3; trains Traffic Ops staff in pavement marking layout and design.
Training and Experience Desired: Experience in the operation of computers with graphic software to include various sign making software; familiarity with the Summa plotter/cutter; experience in traffic maintenance work; experience designing and producing custom signage.
Necessary Special Requirements: Graduation from high school; two (2) years of experience in the operation of a graphics software package that creates traffic signs; must possess a valid Maine Class A or B license or be willing to obtain within six (6) months to one (1) year; must have and maintain good driving record; must pass federally mandated drug test; must pass pre-employment medical exam. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
Labor & Trades Union position - Grade 25M-TC - Starting pay range $973.20-$1,063.20/week, based on years of experience.
