Job Description

About Us:

HavocAI is an innovative defense technology company making scalable maritime autonomy a reality. We are pioneering an end-to-end solution for planning, tasking and control of uncrewed surface vessels (USVs). As we continue to quickly grow, we are looking for motivated individuals that are inspired to work within an extremely energetic, creative, and innovative team that is passionate about maritime robotics and exploring the open ocean. We work in a highly dynamic environment where collaboration and idea sharing are a way of life.

About the Role:

We're looking for a User Experience (UX) Designer to join our product team and collaborate closely with a team of UX Engineers on the design of cutting-edge, map-based applications. In this role, you'll be responsible for transforming complex user needs and data-heavy workflows into clear, intuitive interfaces. You'll drive the research and design process from early discovery through interactive prototyping and handoff, working in lockstep with engineers to ensure implementation fidelity.

This role requires a strong foundation in interaction design, visual communication, and user research—especially in technical or data-intensive environments. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, excited by complex problem spaces, and eager to turn abstract requirements into concrete design systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead UX design for a real-time C2 platform supporting collaborative autonomous vehicle operations.
  • Design interfaces that make sense of complex, streaming sensor data and geospatial information on interactive maps.
  • Partner directly with UX Engineers to define flows, layouts, behaviors, and visualizations that maintain situational awareness and reduce cognitive load.
  • Conduct user research (e.g., stakeholder interviews, usability testing, journey mapping) to validate concepts and refine workflows.
  • Develop wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools like Figma, Sketch, or Framer.
  • Translate mission planning, vehicle control, and sensor monitoring workflows into intuitive user flows and clear visual hierarchies.
  • Create and maintain design systems, reusable patterns, and UX documentation to ensure cohesive design at scale.
  • Advocate for user-centered design best practices across engineering, product, and operational teams.
  • Support the implementation process by delivering detailed design specs, providing feedback on builds, and QA'ing UX fidelity.

Qualifications:

  • 3–6 years of experience designing interactive digital products, ideally for technical, operational, or data-intensive applications.
  • Proven ability to design clear interfaces for complex systems involving real-time data or sensor feeds.
  • Proficiency with Figma or similar tools for prototyping and visual design.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating closely with frontend engineers in agile, cross-functional teams.
  • Solid understanding of interaction design principles, visual hierarchy, typography, and usability heuristics.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability studies to inform design decisions.
  • Comfortable working in complex, evolving problem spaces with ambiguous requirements.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to project requirements.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with geospatial data, GIS tools, or real-time visualization platforms.
  • Familiarity with design for WebGL, Mapbox, Deck.gl ( or similar frameworks.
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS/React to better collaborate with engineers.
  • Exposure to accessibility and performance considerations for technical web applications.
  • Prior work in defense, aerospace, robotics, or real-time operational environments is a strong plus.

Location:

  • This position can be 100% remote and must sit within the United States
  • Some travel is required

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The target salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000
  • 100% Employer paid Health, Dental and Vision Insurance for you and your families
  • Ability to participate in the companies 401k program
  • Unlimited PTO policy with an enforced 2 week minimum
  • Equity Package
  • Work / Home Office Stipend
  • Global Entry Re-Imbursement
  • 16 Week Paid Parental Leave
  • Monthly Health and Wellness Stipend

Our Values:

  • Innovation: We are driven to break new ground. Every day presents an opportunity to challenge the status quo, think boldly, and deliver advanced solutions that transform the future of defense technology.
  • Integrity: We hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards, ensuring transparency, accountability, and trust in all our actions and partnerships.
  • Mission-Driven: We are focused on achieving impactful outcomes that align with our core mission—protecting lives through innovation.
  • Forward-Leaning: We continuously seek out new opportunities and remain at the forefront of technological advancements. We embrace change and anticipate the challenges of tomorrow with confidence and creativity.
  • Ownership of All Tasks: At HavocAI, no problem is too complex or too trivial. We believe that greatness comes from tackling the hardest challenges, but also in handling the smallest, sometimes thankless, tasks with the same level of commitment and care.
  • Servant Leadership: We lead by serving others, whether it's supporting our employees, partners, or the broader community. Empowering those around us is key to achieving long-term success and making a lasting impact.

HavocAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
